Governor Rick Snyder will testify under oath at a deposition that has been set for October 9th. The testimony will be limited to the decision making for the City of Detroit’s bankruptcy filing.
The Treasurer of the State of Michigan will also testify regarding the City of Detroit’s bankruptcy filing.
It will be interesting to see how involved the Governor’s office and the Treasurer’s office were in the decision making process or if they just rubber stamped the decision by Kevyn Orr, Detroit’s Emergency Manager.
Detroit — Gov. Rick Snyder will be questioned under oath Oct. 9 about his decision to authorize the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, according to court records filed Tuesday.
Snyder would become the first sitting governor in modern Michigan history to face questions under oath. The three-hour deposition is set for 8:30 a.m. at Snyder’s office in Lansing at the Romney Building.
Treasurer Andy Dillon will be questioned Oct. 10 along with Richard Baird, the governor’s transformation manager.
Last month, the state Attorney General’s office agreed to make the Republican governor available for a deposition longtime Michigan political observers say adds to the unprecedented nature of Detroit’s bankruptcy.
The deal was ironed out on the sidelines of a bankruptcy hearing after U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes grilled a state lawyer about a last-ditch attempt to shield Snyder and members of his administration from being deposed in the case.
Snyder spokeswoman Sara Wurfel said Monday that the governor volunteered to be deposed “to see this case resolved fairly and as quickly as possible and to ensure what’s in best interests of Detroiters and Michiganders.”
