In an effort to update and replace furniture in room 315 of the Eastern District of MI Bankruptcy Court, the United States Trustee has removed almost all of the furniture in the waiting areas, conference rooms and Trustee meeting rooms. This would be no issue, except for the fact that the replacement furniture will not be delivered for an estimated 2-3 weeks.
The timing of the furniture change is peculiar as there will be a break in hearings during the holiday. It may have made more sense to hold off on replacing furniture until there is a break in 341 Meeting of Creditors hearings for both Chapter 7 cases and Chapter 13 cases.
This decision to remove old furniture without the new furniture in place is creating a logistical problem as there is limited space to meet with Debtor’s for the purpose of signing documents and simply having a place to sit down. Many Debtors in Chapter 7 and/or Chapter 13 cases may be physically limited or disabled and are not able to stand for a long period of time.
Hopefully, this issue works itself out in a timely manner. Otherwise, Ardelean & Dunne PLLC may be soon advising Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 Debtors to bring their own folding chairs to their 341 Meeting of Creditors hearings.
